PORT of Melbourne has again been named a Sector Leader, maintaining its rating as a leading Australian and international port in the 2025 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Infrastructure Asset Assessment.

This year, Melbourne has ranked equal first Australian port, following two years as the sole number one. The port maintained its 5-star GRESB rating, and again scored the maximum possible 100 points, following GRESB’s independent review of PoM’s policies, risk management, and key metrics across over 50 environmental, social, and governance focus areas.

CEO Saul Cannon said PoM was “incredibly proud” of achieving a 5-star GRESB rating for the fourth consecutive year, and maintaining the maximum possible 100 points for the second year in a row.

“That said, this recognition is a reminder that there is still much to do,” said Mr Cannon, “We continue to work towards Net Zero by 2030 for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Looking ahead, there is opportunity to lead by example in building a more resilient and sustainable future, and we look forward to working closely with our stakeholders and the wider industry.”

He said the 2025 result reflects PoM’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, with recent milestones including:

• Continuing on the pathway to Net Zero by 2030 by reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 43% in FY24

• Renewing PoM’s ISO Compliance of its Integrated Management Systems with certifications for Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety, and Asset Management

• Achieving “Tier 1 Skilled Workplace” status in the Mental Health First Aid Australia Workplace Recognition Program, reflecting a range of workplace mental health training and initiatives.

Used by more than 850 infrastructure funds and assets around the world and representing more than $1.6 trillion in infrastructure investment, GRESB is the leading environmental, social, and governance benchmark for infrastructure investments across the world.

The Port of Newcastle yesterday [2 October] announced it had not only earned top GRESB honours but also maintained its 5-star rating for a fifth consecutive year, and was also ranked first in the world for its management score, recognises approaches to governance and environmental, social and governance
