MARITIME Industry Australia has congratulated its chief executive, Angela Gillham, on her appointment as chair of the Freight Industry Reference Panel – Ports and Shipping Subcommittee.

Her appointment comes as the Australian Government moves to strengthen freight productivity and supply chain resilience, including an expansion of the Freight Industry Reference Panel and opening Transport Resilience and Capacity Kickstart (TRACK) applications for Round 1 funding.

Ms Gillham said the health, efficiency and resilience of the supply chain was vital to Australia’s economic success, now and into the future.

“I am pleased to be appointed by the Hon. Catherine King to the role of chair, Ports and Shipping Subcommittee, for the Freight Industry Reference Panel,” Ms Gillham said.

“Coastal shipping is an important part of the Australian freight and supply chain sector, moving more than 88.3bn tonne of goods per kilometre in 2023-24 but making up just 2% of transport emissions annually.

“I look forward to working with the Reference Panel and fellow Ports and Shipping Subcommittee members Jodie Ransom, CEO of Freemantle Ports, Robert Coombs, former Unionist and NSW Politician, and Mike Gallacher, CEO of Ports Australia, to advance practical solutions that strengthen supply chain resilience, support economic growth and encourage greater use of coastal shipping,” Ms Gillham said.
