THERE are just two weeks left in the Mission to Seafarers Sydney's fundraising raffle, with two winners to be offered the opportunity to escort a cruise ship out of Sydney Harbour in 2026.
The organisation said the prize had again been made possible through the support of Engage Marine, which partnered with the Mission to offer the harbour experience as part of this year’s EOFY/Sea Sunday fundraising campaign.
Winners will be drawn on 13 July, the day after Sea Sunday, when communities around the world pause to recognise the contribution of seafarers.
Funds raised through the raffle will help cover rising diesel costs for the Mission’s free mini-bus service, which transports seafarers from Port Botany into Sydney for shore leave and respite.
Last year’s winner Ian Davies said the experience offered a rare insight into harbour towage operations.
“What an amazing afternoon. The tug is an amazing vessel. We were given a thorough tour,” Mr Davies said.
“Tug master Nick was very generous and explained the raw power at his fingertips. It was absolutely fascinating to see ‘behind the curtain’ at what’s involved in getting ships in and out of the harbour.
“I came away thinking that tug master might just be one of the coolest jobs in the world.”
