ANOTHER supplier of key components for New Zealand’s Cook Strait replacement ferries program has been announced, with Norway’s North Sea Handling AS to provide access equipment.
Through its subsidiary NSH Ships Equipment AS, the company has been awarded the contract to equip Ferry Holdings Limited's new rail/ro-paxes, Kupe and Cook, with a wide range of equipment for the handling of cargo, trains and cars/trailers, as well as passengers.
The ferries are being built by Guangzhou Shipyard International and are due for delivery in January and June 2029.
Ships program director Massimo Soprano said that having North Sea Handling AS on board gives FHL the confidence that freight and passengers will have a safe and efficient experience embarking and disembarking the new vessels.
Adam Bengtsson, senior advisor and partner at NSH, said his company’s involvement in the project began several years ago, “and we are very proud to now be part of its realisation together with GSI and FHL. We are grateful for the collaboration and very much look forward to seeing the project move forward,” he said.

The company is headquartered in Bergen, with offices and service points in Gdansk, Miami, Gothenburg, Turku and Shanghai, and more service point in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Dalian, Rotterdam, Dubai, Singapore and Athens.
