THE NEW Electrolux Distribution and Experience Centre at Port of Brisbane's Port West Industrial Estate Stage 2 has achieved a six-star Green Star rating, the highest available under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Design & As Built v1.3 tool.
The facility at Port West Industrial Estate Stage 2 in Lytton achieved 75 points out of a possible 100, representing a ‘World Leadership’ standard for sustainable design, construction and its first six months of operation.
Port of Brisbane CEO Neil Stephens said the rating demonstrated what could be achieved when sustainability was considered from the outset.
“This is a significant milestone for the Port, Electrolux Group and the broader project team,” Mr Stephens said.
“The six-star rating is the culmination of years of planning, innovation and collaboration. Most importantly, it reflects a shared ambition to deliver a facility that performs to the highest operational and safety standards while achieving outstanding sustainability outcomes.
“Industrial facilities play a critical role in Australia’s economy, and projects like this show they can also lead the way in advancing sustainable development outcomes while creating better places to work.”
Electrolux Group VP Commercial Area ANZ Kurt Hegvold said the rating recognised the collaboration behind the project.

“This six-star Green Star rating is a fitting recognition of the incredible collaboration between the Port of Brisbane, the Electrolux Group and the many partners who brought this project to life.”
The project achieved particularly strong results in the Green Star categories of Management, Innovation, Water, Materials and Energy.
The 21,225-square-metre facility is powered by 100 per cent renewable energy through the Port of Brisbane’s embedded energy network, which includes locally installed solar and battery energy storage.
It incorporates low-carbon concrete and sustainably sourced mass timber framing for the two-storey Experience Centre, alongside real-time energy and water monitoring and advanced water recycling initiatives.
A purpose-designed waste recycling centre prevents material from entering adjacent waterways while supporting high-volume operational recycling.
The project team also reduced embodied carbon through material selection and use, while diverting more than 91 per cent of construction waste from landfill. Concrete waste was crushed on site and reused as roadbase.
The design draws on the quintessential Queenslander house, with post-and-beam construction, outdoor verandahs, natural light, river views and wellbeing-focused workplace amenities. It also reflects the Scandinavian roots of the Electrolux brand and its Queensland setting.
The facility was delivered by PBPL in partnership with the Electrolux Group, McNab, Johnstaff, Sparc*, Northrop Consulting Engineers, JLL and Theca Timber.
Officially opened in May 2025, it was the first customer facility completed within Stage 2 of the Port West Industrial Estate at Lytton.
