CONTAINER throughput at the Port of Fremantle declined slightly in March from a high in February, according to the latest trade statistics from Fremantle Ports.

March saw a total of 69,111 TEU cross the wharves at Western Australia’s main container terminal.

This was a decrease of 5% on the previous month’s total throughput of 72,838 TEU. It was also a decline, of 3%, on March 2021’s total of 70,958 TEU.

Comparing this past March and February’s numbers, we find the decrease was largely driven by a decline in containerised overseas exports

Overseas exports declined 14% in March, compared with the previous month, to 29,370 TEU. Coastal exports increased over the period by 30% from 4695 TEU in February to 6099 TEU in March.

Imports remained steady between February and March 2022, decreasing just xx% from 33,854 in February to 33,642 TEU in March.
