THE DIVERSITY and Inclusion Award demonstrates how the shipping and maritime sector is evolving, bringing on new talent and welcoming new ideas and perspectives.
Last year the winner was Auriga, a business that provides services in marine pilotage, helicopter transfer and marine logistics.
As noted by the judges, Auriga had made diversity and inclusion a core part of its business strategy. In a sector traditionally dominated by men, judges took note of Auriga’s efforts to create a pathway for women, Indigenous talent and young people.
The comapny set measurable targets for female representation across maritime and aviation operations – pilots, engineers and managers.
Auriga said the recognition reflected “the collective effort of our people and partners”, proving that “diversity is not just aspirational, it is measurable, impactful and shaping the future of maritime and aviation”.
Sponsoring the award this year is Port Authority of NSW and chief executive John McKenna spoke of the benefits of diversity.
"The DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Awards are an important opportunity to pause and reflect on the achievements of the people and organisations at the frontline of Australia's critical trade and supply chain,” Mr McKenna said.
“A diverse and inclusive maritime workforce is essential to the future of our industry, and Port Authority is proud to sponsor the Diversity & Inclusion Award to recognise those who are creating opportunities, challenging barriers and helping more people see a place for themselves in maritime careers.”
Mr McKenna said the strength of the industry came from the broad experiences, perspectives and skills of the people within it.
“By celebrating the organisations and individuals driving positive change, we can help build a stronger and more representative maritime sector," he said.
The awards this year are scheduled for Thursday 26 November and for the first time are being held in Brisbane, the venue being The Star overlooking the Brisbane River.
Nominations are now open across all award categories. Winners are to be announced at the 2026 DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards night at the Star Brisbane on Thursday 26 November. For more information, visit the DCN Awards site.
