• Section 12 contract for three years with the possibility of extension

• Superannuable salary of $200,135 to $230,154

• Employer superannuation contributions of 12.75%, annual leave loading of 17.5%

Maritime Safety Queensland is seeking a high performing and strategic Regional Harbour Master to join its leadership team. The role is based in Cairns.

In the role of Regional Harbour Master, you will support the General Manager, Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) as a member of the Maritime Leadership Team in the formulation and determination of strategic and management issues across the MSQ areas of responsibility.

The role is required to liaise with government and semi-government bodies, non-government organisations, industry peak bodies, the community and the media, where appropriate, on MSQ maritime safety issues, including the delivery of client services and application of MSQ Legislation and Standards.

Additionally, the Regional Harbour Master is also responsible for the National Plan for Oil Spill Response and is the designated Incident Controller within the region. Accountabilities include:

Financial

• Manage the MSQ Regional Maritime Operations service delivery in the region

• Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of regional operations to make expenditure savings and improve revenue generation

Stakeholder and outcome

• Ensure that appropriate communication and consultation takes place with key regional internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic, business and operational requirements

• Manage external linkages from the regions

• Liaise with industry groups, local government authorities, media and Members of the Legislative Assembly.

Internal business

• Deliver programs in the region as agreed with the General Manager MSQ

• Coordinate community consultation on Regional Maritime MSQ issues

Learning and growth

• Represent the General Manager MSQ on Regional Maritime Operations issues.

• Undertake the role in accordance with the requirements of s26(1) of the Public Service Act 2008 and at all times ensure that the principles as found in the Code of Conduct for the Queensland Public Service are upheld in the carrying out of all duties.

• Represent the General Manager MSQ on Regional Maritime Operations issues.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

• Certificate of Competency as Master (Unrestricted) or an equivalent Certificate or

• Other educational or sea-going qualifications or experience which, in the opinion of the General Manager MSQ, are deemed suitable.
