SILK Contract Logistics has announced the acquisition of Victorian-based wharf carrier Rocke Brothers that has a depot in Lara, Victoria servicing the Geelong region.

SCL has wharf cartage, warehousing and managed distribution services along Australia’s eastern seaboard, as well as in South Australia and Western Australia. It operates at 27 locations across Australia, including a new purpose-built facility within the Port of Brisbane that will open later this month.

Brendan Boyd, managing director of SCL, said the purchase of Rocke Brothers “marks an historic moment in the journey of both businesses”.

“Rocke Brothers is a significant operator in the cartage of containers to and from the Melbourne waterfront with a reputation for safety, quality and customer service.

“This purchase marks the coming together of two dynamic Australian logistics companies, each with a strong history in the Australian transport and logistics industry.

“This announcement marks an exciting next step in SCL’s journey and aligns with the strategy SCL has held for the past five years in relation to growth and a vision to be recognised by our target customers as their partner of choice in the provision of integrated logistics solutions,” Mr Boyd said.

The operations at Rocke Brothers and SCL will continue as they currently do, and it is expected that the clients of both businesses should experience no change or disruption to their current services as a result of the acquisition.

This is the third acquisition made by SCL in the last 14 months, following the acquisition of wharf carriers in Brisbane and Sydney, and compliments SCL’s existing presence in the Victorian-based wharf cartage sector.

“It also positions SCL for further exciting opportunities in the short to medium term,” Mr Boyd said.
