PORT operator DP World is reportedly set to open a new container park facility in the Port of Melbourne this month.

An announcement from the Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) details that the facility, located on Coode Rd, is set to open on 12 May, and will have a capacity of approximately 4000 TEU on 25,000 m2 of land.

The CTAA said the container park will be “complementary” to the Melbourne Logistics Park (MLP) adjacent to the DP World West Swanson Terminal.

“It will have survey, repair and container wash facilities as well as truck parking, but unlike MLP will concentrate on empties (relieving pressure on MLP during peak operations),” the CTAA said in its announcement.

“Its location is also ideal for empties destined for repatriation through Patrick ESD.”

DP World has reportedly partnered with OneStop to implement OneStop Modal and the OneStop Vehicle Booking System (VBS) at the facility.

“This marks another step towards DP World adopting OneStop Modal (as has occurred at their Brisbane Container Park) rather than the other major provider of Park operating systems and truck arrival notification platform,” the CTAA said.

All container movements at DP World Coode Road will require a timeslot booking via the OneStop VBS.

OneStop said of the development, “When paired with the OneStop VBS, the Coode Road facility will benefit from optimised truck scheduling, reduced congestion and improved servicing capabilities”.

The news comes just several days after DP World announced that the company, along with Asian Terminals Inc., will invest US$100 million to boost capacity at Manila’s South Harbour in the Philippines.

Projects targeted by the investment will include the extension of Manila’s Pier 3 berth to over 600 metres, yard expansion to accommodate 20,000 TEU, the addition of two new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, and purchase of eco-friendly landside equipment, according to DP World.
