GLOBAL freight giant FedEx Express has announced the introduction of a non-stop service between its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China, and Sydney, seeking to strengthen market connectivity.
Operating five times weekly using Boeing 777 freighter aircrafts, the new route, is expected to deliver up to one-day faster transit times for select shipments.
The service also seeks to consolidate freight flow from Europe, West Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and Asia into the Australian market.
The enhancement is said to reflect the company’s “ongoing investment” in supporting more resilient global supply chains.
“Growing two-way cross-border trade between Asia and Australia is driving greater demand for fast, reliable transportation and logistics,” said FedEx Australasia regional vice president Peter Langley.
“By enhancing direct air connectivity, FedEx is helping customers move goods more efficiently while building agile supply chains that support long-term business growth.”
According to FedEx, Asia is vital to Australia’s “trade ecosystem”, making up about two-thirds ($516 billion) of the country's total global trade.
As trade volumes and supply chain complexity rises, reliable and efficient transportation and logistics connectivity is said to be more critical, especially for Australian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
With the direct freighter, select FedEx shipments from southern mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand are expected to arrive in major Australian cities within two business days.
This enables businesses to benefit from faster fulfilment, increased capacity for heavy-weight freight and high-value goods and stronger B2B growth as businesses capitalise on expanding intra-Asia trade.
As businesses adapt supply chains to be faster, more regional, and more resilient, seamless air connectivity across Asia has become critical.
The latest FedEx expansion is said to integrates its domestic air and road networks across Australia, delivering improved reliability, network flexibility, and end-to-end shipment visibility for customers.
