SHEDDING light on seafarer welfare is the aim of a survey organised by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
The survey is entitled Have Your Say on International Seafarer Welfare in Australia.
“The wellbeing of seafarers is vital to ensuring safe, sustainable and efficient maritime operations,” AMSA said in a statement.
“That’s why we are seeking feedback on the welfare services available to seafarers visiting Australian ports.
“If you are a seafarer who has visited an Australian port, we want to hear about your experience with shore-based welfare services.”
The survey covers key aspects of current services.
The survey is said to be fast, anonymous and there is the option to answer just three questions or to take the full survey.
The findings are to be published on the Australian Seafarers’ Welfare Council (ASWC) website.
The Australian Seafarers’ Welfare Council (ASWC) seeks to ensure adequate existing welfare facilities and to help in the coordination of port and regional welfare committees.
According to the ASWC website, the council consists of members from both national and local organisations that contribute to the welfare of seafarers.
“ASWC members work together towards their vision of ‘the provision of appropriate welfare services for all seafarers visiting Australian Ports’,” ASWC stated.
