WORKPLACE Health and Safety Queensland are investigating a fatal incident at the Port of Brisbane precinct that led to the death of a worker.

The incident occurred early on Friday morning and involved a bulldozer rollover at the facility of Sunstate Cement Ltd on Bulk Terminals Drive.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance Service told DCN paramedics assessed a male patient “in a life-threatening condition following a machinery incident at a location on Bulk Terminals Drive reported at 6.20am”.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police said emergency services were called at 6.27am to “reports of a sudden death at a workplace on Bulk Terminal Drive”.

“Officers are working with Workplace Health and Safety in relation to the investigation and will prepare a report for the coroner,” the QP spokesperson said.

State media reported Workplace Health and Safety Queensland inspectors being on the site later in the day.

DCN sought comment from Sunstate Cement.

A spokesperson for Workplace Health & Safety Queensland said their inspectors had been onsite and inquiries into the incident were underway.

"As this is an active investigation, no further comment can be made at this time," the spokeperson said.

In a statement, the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) said it had spoken to union members on site and was offering support.

The AWU said it was engaging with Sunstate Cement to ensure workers had access to appropriate support.

AWU Queensland secretary Stacey Schinnerl said their thoughts were "with the family, friends and colleagues of the worker who has tragically lost his life".

"Every worker should be able to go to work and come home safe. In this day and age, tragedies like this simply should not be happening," Mr Schinnerl said.

"Our priority is the well-being of our members and ensuring that lessons are learned so no other family has to experience this kind of loss."
