Earlier this month saw a gathering of attendees in Brisbane to understand and play the LinerGame. The LinerGame enables ‘players’ step into the shoes of a liner shipping operator, making critical decisions that shape outcomes across booking, stowage, and terminal operations.
Within GHD’s Brisbane office and under the expert facilitation and instruction of Peter Creeden from MPC International Pty Ltd, players were given the background to the game along with the rules and then allowed to get right into play.
In the Brisbane version, players from Port of Brisbane, Endava, Seaway, BBC Chartering, Queensland Transport and Logistics Council, GHD and Vecturys were divided into four teams, each operating one of four global ports - Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Shanghai, Hong Kong, with trade enabled by four beautifully crafted Lego vessels.
Over the day and several rounds of gameplay, the players and teams assumed real-world roles and collaborated across ports and vessels to manage container flows, maximise profitability, and solve operational challenges under time pressure. In addition to being a great learning experience, it was great fun.
