STEVEDORE DP World says four of its automated stacking cranes at its Brisbane terminal have been affected by a loss of power due to civil works.
DP World stated “critical power infrastructure” had been damaged with resulting power disruption and “significant delays to container movements”.
The outage occurred just after midday on Thursday [20 November].
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this is causing to your operations,” the stevedore said in a statement.
“Our teams are implementing back-up power solutions as quickly as possible, with refrigerated containers prioritised to ensure the continued protection of temperature-sensitive cargo.
“In parallel, we are activating a manual handling plan for container moves where safe and possible to keep operations moving.”
According to the stevedore, the impacts of the outage are expected to extend for around 48 hours.
“We are sharing this early estimate to give [customers] the best opportunity to plan around the disruption, and we appreciate this may require adjustments to your own operations,” DP World stated.
“Please be assured that restoring full functionality is our highest priority. Our engineering and terminal teams are working to reduce delays, support your schedules, and maintain service continuity wherever possible.”
DP World said it would “provide regular updates as the situation progresses, including timeframes for restored power and any changes to vessel movements”.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and are committed to keeping you informed and minimising the impact to your business,” it stated.
DP World Brisbane on Fisherman Islands is the company’s first to become semi-automated, featuring automated stacking cranes.
According to the company, its advanced terminal operating system, electric internal transfer vehicles provide more efficient cargo handling.
