DHL GROUP says it has marked key milestones towards decarbonisation meeting the objectives of its sustainability roadmap announced last year.

The initiative includes sustainable fuel agreements, electric vehicle deployment, and carbon-neutral facilities including aviation fuel.

Despite aviation being a difficult sector to decarbonise, DHL says it is making steady moves to achieve 30% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) usage by 2030.

The year 2025 saw DHL Express sign landmark SAF agreements with leading partners across Asia, including Cosmo Energy, Cathay and Neste to boost SAF demand and adoption for air cargo flights.

Additionally, SAF is also widely adopted by customers in theAsia Pacific region through DHL's GoGreen Plus service.

DHL Express chief executive Ken Lee said sustainability was more than a slogan.

“Together with the right partners, we are setting a benchmark for the logistics industry,” Mr Lee said.

“We are determined to extend our efforts and scale solutions that can make a real impact for our customers and reduce our impact to the planet.”

DHL Global Forwarding previously formed a global partnership with CMA CGM to buy 8,800 metric tonnes of UCOME second-generation biofuel with the aim of cutting around 25,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions on a well-to-wake basis.

DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific chief executive Niki Frank said their role went beyond moving goods.

“We enable global trade to become more sustainable. Customers are increasingly asking for solutions that could help them decarbonise entire supply chains,” Mr Frank said.

“With our global reach and expertise across air, ocean and road freight, DHL is uniquely positioned to deliver those ambitions through innovation and collaboration.”

DHL says it is also continuing to accelerate the transition to emissions-reduced ground transport through the deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles and the electrification of its fleet.
