The event was organised by the Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) and the Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA).

Transurban traffic director Eli Goodhardt provided some insights into the use of the West Gate tunnel by trucks since it this new piece of infrastructure opened in December last year.

Freight Victoria senior policy officer, policy and strategy, Jess Murdoch, and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) senior project officer Stephanie Lagerstedt delved into the topic of no-truck zones in terms of roll-out and enforcement.

DP World West Swanson landside superintendent Michael Fogarty updated the gathering on VBS changes and engaged in some lively discussion with the audience.

Port of Melbourne head of trade & supply chain Mark Bergamasco spoke on the topic of rail including the Port Rail Shuttle Network and capacity enhancement.

He said the port was “mode agnostic” but given increasing volumes it made sense to get more freight on rail.

He said they needed to consider what greater volumes meant for a capacity enhancement program and in terms of connectivity.

CTAA director Neil Chambers moderated a series of questions from the floor leading to some interesting debate.

The event concluded with further discussions over lunch and there were many opportunities for socialising and renewing contacts.
