AN INVESTIGATION is underway in Queensland after a fire broke out among shipping containers at a commercial site in the Brisbane suburb of Hemmant.
ABC reported a forklift caught fire at a business on Anton Road about 11am.
One patient was reported with life-threatening burns to their chest, head and face, while another had suffered serious burns to their arms.
Emergency services told the ABC three people are being treated for smoke inhalation, with all five injured taken to hospital.
A spokesperson from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said they were notified and their agents later attended.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, no further comment can be made at this time,” the spokesperson said.
Channel 7 described aerial vision showing “thick smoke billowing from among stacks of shipping containers as firefighters worked to contain the blaze”.
Newspaper websites also showed black smoke from the scene.
A spokesperson for the company provided a statement to DCN on condition the businesses was not named in this article.
"At this time our key focus is on supporting all our staff who were involved in today’s incident and their families and providing counselling services as and when required," the spokesperson said.
"Our staff who were on site at the time of the incident acted promptly and responsibly to contain the fire as best they could and we are very proud of them.
"We are cooperating fully with all of the authorities involved to return the site to a safe operating status.
"We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the attending emergency personnel who did an outstanding job and showed compassion, care and professionalism in their duties. Incidents of this nature are stressful for all involved so we will be doing out best to work through it."
