THE Mission to Seafarers Sydney held its annual meeting this week, “with strong attendance” and what was described as “a shared sense of purpose” for 2026-27.
Chair Rob Dunn opened the meeting with his annual report, expressing gratitude to supporters, stakeholders, volunteers, staff, and the board for their commitment to seafarer welfare.
CEO Clayton Strong followed with an overview of the year’s activities and key statistics, highlighting the Mission’s continued impact across the port community.
Chaplains Reverend Retchie and Reverend Tay delivered a joint presentation that blended reflection and storytelling. Through the story of the man and his boat and a short video titled The Boy Came to School Late, they invited attendees to consider the unseen burdens many seafarers carry.
Their message emphasised the importance of compassion, curiosity, and presence in maritime pastoral care.
The chaplaincy team reaffirmed their commitment to honouring every seafarer’s humanity, offering care without conditions, and creating safe spaces for those who serve at sea.
As Reverend Tay noted, “when we take time to understand the journey someone has walked, our ministry deepens and our service becomes truly Christlike”.
