GLOBAL logistics provider Rhenus Group has been engaged to provide international freight services for next month’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30) to be held in Belem, Brazil from November 10 to 21.

Singapore-based Rhenus Group will partner with the Brazilian state-owned postal service Corrreios – designated by the UN as COP 30 strategic logistics operator – to provide logistics for the annual climate conference, ensuring that conference props and equipment stored at Bonn is flown to Brazil via Sao Paulo-Gauaralhos and Viracopos airports and returned to Germany after the conference.

Announcing the contract, Rhenus pointed to its track record in managing logistics at international events, such as last year’s COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan and the Paris Summer Games where it handled logistics for the Belgian Olympic team. Rhenus also played a logistics role at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.

Rhenus Group CEO Tobias Bartz noted that “Brazil is one of our key hubs for supply chain operations and an essential centre for our activities across the Latin American region, supported by our highly skilled local teams.”

The company’s own environmental credentials supported the contract award, with Rhenus committing to achieve a net zero carbon target by 2045 through technological innovations such as its “RheGreen”, which selects the most efficient aircraft for airfreight tasks. Other digital tools the group employs are its emissions dashboard, allowing customers a view of the carbon footprint of their shipments, and a transport mode optimiser to identify low-emissions freight options. After COP 30, the company will provide a detailed report of its carbon footprint for the event’s logistics.

The family-owned Rhenus Group employs 41,000 staff at 1330 sites in more than 70 countries, including Australia, and reports annual turnover of 8.2 billion euros.
