FORMER DP World Australia and Pacific National executive Paul Scurrah has a new gig, appointed managing director and chief executive of Fiji Airways effective from 1 November.

In a statement, the airline said Mr Scurrah brought more than two decades of executive experience across aviation, transport, logistics and tourism, “with a proven record of leading transformation, strengthening culture, and delivering sustainable growth”.

“He previously served as CEO of Virgin Australia, guiding the airline through one of the most challenging periods in modern aviation—COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently led Pacific National, Australia’s largest private rail freight company, through an ambitious program of operational and safety excellence,” it stated.

“His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Fiji Airways as we continue our journey of innovation, world-class service, and strong financial performance.”

At DPWA, Mr Scurrah was associated with efforts to drive the process of waterfront automation.

On his LinkedIn profile, Mr Scurrah wrote that he was “honoured and excited to be taking up this role at Fiji Airways and was grateful to the board “for giving me this outstanding opportunity”.

“I love that I’m back in the aviation industry and at Fiji Airways; it’s got to be one of the best jobs in the world,” he stated.

“I look forward to meeting with the team, customers and all stakeholders in coming weeks.”

Mr Scurrah takes over from Andre Viljoen after a ten-year tenure.

Mr Viljoen is to continue to serve on the Fiji Airways board of directors.

“We warmly welcome Mr Scurrah to the Fiji Airways family and look forward to charting new horizons together—for our people, our nation, and the Pacific,” the board said in a statement.
