PROMINENT freight sector advocate and ALP politician Glenn Sterle is to speak at the 2026 VTA State Conference in March.
Before entering parliament, Senator Sterle worked in road freight transport — first as a company driver, later as an ‘owner‑driver’, operating routes from Perth, to the Pilbara and all the way to the Northern Territory.
“Glenn has always demonstrated a genuine commitment to our industry and our members,” said Victorian Transport Association chief executive Peter Anderson.
“His insights will be invaluable as we address the major regulatory, technological and workforce changes influencing the freight and logistics landscape.”
Mr Anderson said Senator Sterle’s “unique background” helped anchor policy discussions.
“Glenn is one of the few people in federal politics who has genuinely lived the day‑to‑day pressures our members experience — managing fatigue, balancing compliance, navigating cost challenges and meeting customer expectations,”
he said. “That perspective is incredibly important as our industry evolves.”
Mr Anderson said Senator Sterle’s long‑standing relationship with the VTA brought continuity and depth.
“We’re at a point where our industry is experiencing rapid change — from technology integration to shifting policy frameworks and acute workforce pressures,” he said.
“Glenn’s input will help shape the critical conversations we need to have to ensure the sector remains safe, productive and sustainable.”
The conference is being held at Silverwater Resort, San Remo, near Phillip Island.
