Map seeks to shed light on freight loss across Australia

AN INTERACTIVE tool that visualises freight insurance claims across Australia has been released onto the market.

The Freight Claims is the product of FreightSafe, a freight claims management company, and FreightInsure, an embedded freight insurance platform.

FreightSafe estimates around 1% of Australian domestic freight value is lost or damaged each year, costing small and medium-sized enterprises about $2bn in eroded profit.

To help businesses see where these incidents have occurred, the map plots historical claims geographically across transport routes. Key features include:

• • Hub-specific mapping: Breaks down historical claims data by capital city, giving freight operators, shippers, and logistics professionals a clear view of where past claims have been lodged around each major transport hub.
  • Route visualisation: Shows how more than 30,000 real-world claims are distributed across different geographic regions and transit lines.
  • Open access: The tool is entirely free to use and requires no sign-up or registration.

"FreightSafe has handled freight claims for over 20 years, and you end up with a real picture of how freight moves around the country and where it tends to go wrong," said Jonathan Bass, executive director of FreightSafe and FreightInsure.

"FreightInsure took that and built it into a map, which gives the industry a genuinely interesting resource and a good look at how we approach freight with technology."
