THIS week, two unions made a submission to the strategic fleet taskforce urging it to address issues around maritime training.

The Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers and the Australian Maritime Officers Union agreed new officers and engineers need to begin their training within the next few months.

In other news, Australian ports agency Monson has acquired Meridian Port Agencies. Monson said the acquisition would build its scale and international network.

And it was reported that more than 607,000 TEU crossed the wharves at Tasmanian ports over this past financial year.
