OPPOSITION infrastructure spokesman Anthony Albanese is set to contest the leadership of the Australian Labor Party following Saturday’s shattering election loss.

He is to face competition from treasury spokesman Chris Bowen and possibly rising star Jim Chalmers.

Prominent front bencher Tanya Plibersek has already ruled herself out of the contest, citing family reasons.

A win for Mr Albanese would probably be a boon for transport and logistics, with the Opposition leader having a firm grasp of this topic.

It would also involve Labor having to find a new infrastructure spokesman however.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is yet to announce any cabinet changes.
