THE Australian Border Force is to host the World Customs Organization’s Fifth Global Canine Forum on 1-3 October 2019 in Melbourne.

ABF Commissioner Michael Outram said they were honoured to have been selected “to host this prestigious event”.

“Australia recognises the critical role the Canine Forum plays in sharing best practice, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience on the use of detector dogs, dog breeding, management of facilities, and the design of dog training programs,” Mr Outram said.

“The Australian Border Force Detector Dog Program plays an integral part in helping to protect Australia by detecting illicit drugs, tobacco, firearms, currency and explosives.

“We invite all our customs colleagues, and the international enforcement community, to come together in October to share our experiences and to learn from each other.”

The Forum is to feature presentations by experts from around the world, who are to discuss the latest developments in detector dog capability, training and breeding programs.

Also to be discussed is build a capability to respond to border threats.
