LABOR has a new spokesperson in the key portfolio of infrastructure and transport, with Catherine King taking over from her new boss Anthony Albanese.

Mr Albanese ascended to the leadership following the ALP’s disastrous electoral loss on 18 May.

Catherine King will have to work closely with her boss, with Mr Albanese having been a long-standing spokesman and former minister.

The government has already confirmed Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack will remain as infrastructure minister.

The new Labor front bench is much-changed, with Jim Chalmers taking over treasury from Chris Bowen, Tony Burke taking on industrial relations, Joel Fitzgibbon becoming the main man in agriculture and Madeleine King taking on trade.

Labor’s attitude to areas such as coastal shipping will be keenly observed, with the party’s ambitious plans to revitalise the sector having been dashed at the election.
