TASMANIAN Jacqui Lambie appears set for a return to parliament, with counting showing the former Palmer Party member will be returned as an independent Senator.

Ms Lambie previously represented Tasmania in the Senate between 2014 and 2017, firstly as a Palmer Party MP and then as an independent.

So what does this have to do with transport and logistics?

Well, it is worth noting Ms Lambie took a big interest in the Tasmanian maritime sector and was vocal about coastal shipping and a container terminal at Burnie.

She also became close to the Maritime Union and opposed Coalition government attempts to deregulate the shipping sector.

DCN readers will recall Ms Lambie attended the Maritime Awards in Sydney in November 2016.

Ms Lambie has already warned the Coalition would need to treat her “a hell of a lot better” than it did last time around.

“You know what, Scott Morrison? If I am lucky and I hold that balance of power, I hope to God you and your people treat me a hell of a lot better than what they did in the three and a half years I was up here,” she told ABC TV.
