OCEAN Network Express has announced plans to introduce smart container technology into its global fleet of containers.

The shipping line has partnered with Sony Network Communications Europe on the project. The Sony company offers a cargo tracking service called Visilion.

ONE said the technology-enabled containers will give it greater insights about its container fleet.

It expects the data to enable better visibility of the containers, efficient container movements and more reliable shipping data.

The development aims to allow customers to access live updates throughout a shipment’s journey.

The two companies believe the collaboration will combine Sony’s technological expertise with ONE’s cargo shipping experience to “break new ground” in logistics technology.

ONE managing director – product and network Hiroki Tsujii said ONE has upheld the value of collaboration since its inception.

“Now, together with Sony, we are excited to create the future of container shipping,” he said.

“This is a future where we have access to the insights we need to offer our customers a higher quality of service to forge a new standard of process excellence.

“The development of this smart container solution will combine the very best from experts in our respective fields.

“Our joint mission will aim to push the limits of what we are capable of with innovative logistics technologies.”

And Erik Lund, head of the tracking division, Visilion at Sony Network Communications Europe, said the solution would help carriers “take their global operations to the next level”.

“The real-time insights gained across ONE’s fleet will allow them to further optimise their shipping business and in doing so, improve customer service,” he said.

“We look forward to working together and creating the future of logistics.”
