KARARA Mining has recorded a milestone with 60million tonnes of throughput at Geraldton since beginning in 2013.

According to Mid-West Ports Authority, “that equates to 997 ships berthed in our port and with each inbound and outbound movement requiring the use of three tugs, that’s 2991 tug movements to service those ships”.

“The Karara mine site was officially opened in April 2013 200km south-east of Geraldton and is the largest mining operation in the Mid West,” MWPA stated. MWPA congratulated Karara on the milestone.

It produces “high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers”.

“With an expected life of 30-plus years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community where we operate,” the mining company stated.

“The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.”
