THE historic building that is home to the Gladstone Ports Corporation and that has been a feature of the small town for almost 109 years is to be getting a fresh coat of paint in coming weeks.

Kullaroo House starting as the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Ltd in 1911.

Designed by Brisbane architect James Percy Owen Cowlishaw, Kullaroo House has been on the corner of Goondoon and Yarroon Streets as a bank, boarding house, law office, restaurant and now office space.

Gladstone Ports Corporation acting CEO Craig Walker said the building was bought in 1993 as head office when GPC was operating as the Gladstone Port Authority.

“We refurbished Kullaroo for office space, ensuring to keep the original detail of the building as it is heritage listed; prior to this it was a restaurant in the ‘80s,” Mr Walker said.

“Fast forward 27 years and Kullaroo House is a well-known Gladstone icon and home to our Management and Corporate and Community Relations teams.

“The works are being undertaken by local company Priority Painters as part of our routine maintenance schedule and will ensure Kullaroo House remains the ‘jewel’ of Goondoon Street.”

Works are expected to reach completion by the end of March.
