A “TUG ballet” at Port of Newcastle was among the highlights of the “Sounding of the ships’ horns” events staged around the country.

Ships and specialist vessels around the country sounded their horns at noon (local times) on Friday to recognise the value seafarers have contributed to the continuance of service and supply during the pandemic.

The idea came from the International Chamber of Shipping.

The event was designed to coincide with International Workers Day, also known as Workers Day, May Day and Labour Day. It is an annual event that acknowledges and celebrates the contribution made by workers worldwide.
