PORT Phillip Sea Pilots have welcomed their new vessel Petrel III to its fleet of pilot vessels servicing Melbourne, Western Port and Geelong.

“Safety of our pilots in adverse weather conditions is paramount, and Petrel III is highly equipped to get the job done,” PPSP said in a statement posted on social media.

Petrel III was built by Hart Marine.

It has a length of 12.5m and is equipped with: twin Cummins 400 kw (536hp) engines, bow thruster, wave piercing bow, wide non slip decks, dual engine controls, man-over board recovery system, thermal detection, CCTV monitoring of external and internal spaces, impact fendering among other features.

“PPSP’s investment in essential infrastructure demonstrates our continued commitment to a safe and reliable on-demand service that delivers the best possible outcome for both ship operators and port stake holders,” PPSP stated.

The pilots recently bid ‘farewell’ to Mavis III, a vessel that operated since 1994.
