PILBARA Ports Authority has reported a total monthly throughput of 60.5 million tonnes in September 2023.
The throughput figure was down 2% compared with the same month last year.
The Port of Port Hedland had a monthly throughput of 45.7 million tonnes, of which 45.1 million tonnes was iron ore exports.
This was a 1% decrease tin total throughput compared with September 2022.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 181,000 tonnes, an increase of 43% compared with September 2022.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 13.7 million tonnes, which was a 6% decrease from September last year.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 116,000 tonnes, an increase of 7% from September 2022.
PPA said several factors influence the monthly fluctuation of throughput, including changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations and proponent needs.
Total throughput across all ports since 1 July 2023 is 183 million tonnes.
