SVITZER Australia this week announced that three new tugs would be deployed to the Port of Geraldton as part of a non-exclusive licence for towage services with Mid West Ports.

The new license is for a period of five years, with further options commencing from 1 January 2019.

Svitzer Australia managing director Nicolaj Noes said the company was delighted to continue to support Mid West Ports

“Svitzer and its predecessors have been in operation in Geraldton for more than 30 years and we’re delighted to be able to continue to support Mid West Ports, our joint customers and secure the ongoing employment of more than 20 Geraldton locals,” he said.

“The operation at Geraldton is a model of autonomy with crews that pride themselves on the quality and reliability of service to the Port and our customers.”

The new tugs are to be designed by Robert Allan Limited and built by ASL Singapore and are due to be delivered in 2020. The three vessels will each have a 70-tonne bollard pull.
