PATRICK Terminals welcomed a US navy ship to its Brisbane AutoStrad terminal on Tuesday.

The USS America is the largest amphibious assault carrier in the US Seventh Fleet. It stopped at the port of Brisbane ahead of a training exercise in Northern Australia.

“This impressive 257-metre-long vessel is carrying F-35 joint strike fighters and other aircraft, and will participate in the upcoming bilateral combined military training event, exercise Talisman Sabre,” Patrick said.

“Witnessing the USS America as she majestically came alongside our quay line was an impressive sight.”

Exercise Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral training activity between the Australian Defence Force and the United States military.

Talisman Sabre exercise director Brigadier Damian Hill said this round of training would be the biggest ever in terms of geographic span and participating nations.

“Considerable planning has gone into a safe and productive exercise for all participants,” he said.

“This year’s exercise will demonstrate our ability to receive large volumes of personnel and equipment into Australia from across the Indo-Pacific and stage, integrate and move them forward into the large exercise area.”
