RO-RO specialist Wallenius Wilhelmsen is establishing a new equipment processing and technical services facility at the Brisbane Airport precinct.

The site, which is scheduled to be operational in February next year, covers a gross area of 48,000 square metres. The company said this is nearly double the size of its current facility in Brendale, Queensland.

The company said its new facility and distribution hub would benefit its customers in the agriculture; mining and construction; and trucking and automotive sectors, among others.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen vice-president sales Ocean Vedran Muratbegovic said, “This new facility demonstrates our commitment to the Australian market and enables our customers to better navigate the uncertainties of global supply chain disruptions.”

The company’s senior vice-president logistics services Oceania, Kim Buoy said sustainability was an important deciding factor when it came to choosing the location for the new site.

“Given our focus on sustainable supply chains, Brisbane Airport’s combination as a key intermodal hub and its low-carbon goals made it a clear choice for our logistics centre,” Mr  Buoy said.

“With the continued growth and need for logistics services in Queensland and beyond, we look forward to showcasing this facility to our customers and partners shortly.”

According to the company, the site will offer a full scope of electrical, mechanical and engineering services, as well as the ability to store, assemble, refurbish, preserve and transport products.

It will include a warehouse and workshop equipped with overhead gantry cranes, wash bays and two paint booths capable of conducting full resprays of equipment and machinery, together with 42,000 square meters of outside storage.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed a 10-year lease on the new site. The company’s current site in Brendale will be shut down once the new site is operational, and staff will continue in their current roles at the new location.
