A RESCUE helicopter was deployed off Australia’s Top End to rescue an injured crew member from the box ship Colombo.

The rescue occurred 250NM north east of the North Territory capital Darwin.

According to AMSA, The Rescue 700 emergency helicopter was tasked with conducting the medevac, with the Cairns Challenger chopper providing cover.

The Rescue 700 is based at Horn Island in the Torres Strait. It is contracted to the Queensland government to provide aeromedical and rescue services.

AMSA tasked this helicopter under the Australian Search and Rescue arrangements to conduct the medevac from MV Colombo.

Colombo is flagged in Liberia and was launched back in 2004.
