THE LATEST round of funding for regional communities on the Inland Rail network has pushed total funding since its establishment above $1 million.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation and Inland Rail have been running the Community Sponsorships and Donations Program since 2019.

Nineteen community groups and associations were allocated a combined $68,000 in funding in the latest round of support.

Sporting clubs, history groups, community radio, music events and railway societies were among the recipients.

Stephen Jones, Inland Rail director of health, safety and environment, said the work the organisations do is instrumental to the wellbeing of regional communities.

“The Community Sponsorships and Donations program is just one example of how we ensure that communities benefit from this nation-building project and that we leave a positive legacy in the regions along the Inland Rail alignment,” he said.

“We offer funding between $1000 and $4000 for groups and organisations that operate along the Inland Rail route and contribute to local and regional prosperity, well-being, and sustainability.

“These funds will directly benefit the community through supporting vital local initiatives.

“I encourage other non-profit groups to lodge their applications for the next round of funding.”

ARTC and Inland Rail said the program – now in its 15th round – has supported 308 community projects and event since its launch.

Other beneficiaries in the past include local festivals, school STEM initiatives, sporting facilities and health and wellbeing groups.

Nominations for the next round of funding are open until Tuesday 31 January 2023.
