THE SYDNEY to Melbourne train line will be closed from Forbes to Goobang Junction next weekend as upgrades are completed.

Works for the Inland Rail project will be conducted at sites across the Stockinbingal to Parkes section so double-stacked freight trains can use the track.

Level crossing works at Daroobalgie, north of Forbes, will be undertaken including upgrades to the existing under track as well as road drainage.

Reconditioning works will also support the planned installation of turnouts for the Daroobalgie crossing loop later in the year.

Track works will continue in Forbes, with piling to take place in preparation for future track lowering works under the Wyndham Avenue road bridge.

Work will also start at Forbes yard, including track removal of a turnout and yard lines, and resurfacing to achieve horizontal clearances between rail lines and structures.

Inland Rail’s Melvyn Maylin said the team would work within an 88-hour timeframe to get the jobs done.

“Inland Rail is a nation building project that will transform how goods are moved around Australia,” Mr Maylin said.

“These works are critical to enable double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably around Australia.”
