CONSTRUCTION of the Goulburn Valley Link Freight Precinct has been completed, following a $22.5 million upgrade aimed at improving freight efficiency and supporting economic growth in regional Victoria.
The project included upgrades to Simson Road and construction of a roundabout at the Toolamba and Simpson Road intersection. The works are intended to improve access to the precinct and support the safer, more efficient movement of High Productivity Freight Vehicles.
The Australian government contributed $8.5 million to the project, while Greater Shepparton City Council provided $14 million.
The upgrades are expected to improve road safety, network reliability and freight connections for the region’s agriculture, manufacturing and other key industries.
The precinct also includes an intermodal terminal linking the Goulburn Valley to the Port of Melbourne and strengthening connections with national and interstate transport networks, markets and distribution centres.
Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said the completed project would reinforce the precinct’s role in Australia’s freight network.
“The Goulburn Valley is a powerhouse of agriculture and innovation, and with works now completed, this precinct will continue to play an important role within Australia’s freight network,” she said.
“I’d like to thank the Greater Shepparton City Council for their strong advocacy on this critical project. Our government is proud to partner with council to improve freight productivity, strengthen supply chain resilience and support regional communities.”
Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the completion of stage one of GV Link Enterprise Park marked a significant milestone for the region.
“The development of GV Link Enterprise Park Stage 1 is a significant milestone that represents strong confidence in our region, our businesses and our economic future,” Cr Sioli said.
“By attracting investment and supporting expansion, GV Link Enterprise Park will cement Greater Shepparton’s reputation as a leading manufacturing and freight hub for Victoria and beyond.”
Senator for Victoria Jana Stewart said the project would connect the Goulburn Valley Freight Hub with the national freight network.
“This project will connect the Goulburn Valley Freight Hub straight through to the national network. It connects trucks to the highways and corridors they rely on every day to get produce and goods where they need to go,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to see this finished. Anyone who’s driven through this region knows how much freight moves through here. The fruit, the dairy, the manufactured goods. This upgrade means fewer bottlenecks and delays, and that matters for the farmers, the manufacturers, and the truckies doing the long haul. It’s a real win for the whole region.”
