AAL Shipping (AAL) has marked what it says is another significant milestone in its newbuilding program with the official naming ceremony of its latest Super B‑Class vessel, AAL Mumbai.
Held at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou, the 32,000-dwt multipurpose heavy‑lift (800t max lift) newbuild will now enter service, bringing AAL’s Super B‑Class fleet to eight vessels, with two more still set for delivery in 2028.
Named after one of India’s most prominent maritime, industrial and commercial hubs, AAL Mumbai reflects AAL’s continued focus on, and commitment to, the Indian market.

The vessel is said to join the fleet at a time when India’s infrastructure, energy and offshore renewables sectors are experiencing sustained growth, driving increased demand for specialised heavy‑lift and project cargo shipping solutions.
“The naming of AAL Mumbai is a symbolic moment for us as we expand our footprint in India,” said Marc Willim, AAL Shipping global head of chartering.
“This vessel strengthens our ability to serve Indian customers with safe, reliable and flexible heavy‑lift solutions, while reinforcing our commitment to supporting India’s role as a key driver of global project cargo demand.”
After its sister vessel AAL Newcastle, AAL Mumbai debuts a range of technical enhancements designed to further improve cargo flexibility and operational efficiency.
Key upgrades include increased heavy‑lift capability, with individual crane capacity raised from 350 to 400 tonnes, enabling a combined lifting capacity of up to 800 tonnes.
Additional design refinements optimise deck strength and utilisation, as well as the handling of long and complex project components, helping to accelerate port operations and reduce handling risks for shippers.
The vessel is expected to play a key role in AAL’s ability to offer mixed cargo solutions, carrying project cargo alongside high-volume breakbulk and general cargo parcels within a single voyage.
Earlier this year, AAL confirmed orders for two additional Super B‑Class vessels, scheduled for delivery in early 2028, as part of its ongoing fleet expansion and renewal strategy focused on flexible, fuel‑efficient multipurpose tonnage.
