SOME of the challenges involved with manoeuvring big ships into Port Botany are shown on video.

In the clip tugboat skipper Luke McAlpine demonstrates just what goes into moving container ships into port every day and the skills required of tug masters.

He describes the strength of a tug boat and describes just how imperative they are in the functional operation of Australian ports.

He also notes the challenges of strong winds, swell, and occasional visibility impediments such as heavy rain and fog but also explains.

In the clip, the tug helps bring in the ANL Monrovia to port.

Luke McAlpine concludes with some thoughts on why he loves the job so much.
