TASPORTS is gearing up for the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Port of Hobart.

The event is the largest celebration of wooden boats and maritime culture in the Southern Hemisphere, according to the festival website.

TasPorts said it has supported the wooden boat festival since its inception in 1994.

This year, the port operator is inviting the Tasmanian community on its so-called “Tour with TasPorts” to learn about port operations in Hobart.

TasPorts’ boat tour includes transit under the Tasman Bridge and a view of historic wharves and the Selfs Point Fuel Terminal.

Nic Street, Tasmanian minister for hospitality and events, said festival organisers are expecting around 12,000 visitors at the 2023 event.

“From February 10 to 13 next year, the biennial four-day festival will take over the Hobart waterfront and showcase Tasmania’s rich maritime history and continued links to the water through tourism, seafood, trade and leisure,” he said.

“We know these visitors will spend a significant amount of time in Tasmania and will make a substantial contribution to our tourism and hospitality sectors.”

TasPorts said it will donate all ticket proceeds from the tour to Mission to Seafarers.

TasPorts and Mission to Seafarers in Hobart recently signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen support for seafarer welfare services.
