WITH less than four months to go until the 30th annual DCN Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards night and just two months to get your nominations submitted, DCN is putting the awards themselves under the microscope — what it takes to win and what it means to those who have proudly displayed their trophy.
First cab off the rank is the award for Supply Chain Technology & Innovation. Talk to just about anyone and the conversation turns to making the supply chain process smoother, faster and less complicated. Whether you’re a freight forwarder looking to provide a better and more reliable service, or whether you manage a global organisation with multiple stakeholders, anything that simplifies business is a massive help.
Some changes happen organically; some are forced upon us (think... a certain period of lockdown) and some seem born out of pure genius—an idea sparked from a tricky problem or pain point that, once brought to life, becomes an industry gamechanger.
One company with a fresh and open mind is The MCC Group, who DCN is delighted to announce as the sponsor of this award—ensuring it has an important place on the night.
Chief executive of The MCC Group Roger Weiller told DCN adaptation was crucial as industry had “struggled for decades to maintain sustainability of day-to-day operations at a level that is balanced, mostly due to the urgency and pace that the industry operates”.
“By innovating and streamlining processes it automatically increases productivity and subsequently improving day-to-day engagement by decreasing pressure and workload,” Mr Weiller said.
The MCC Group has partnered with an automation firm to bring about improvements.
“We believe that certain areas of the industry have been completely overlooked and have stagnated due to a few factors, but mostly external pressures that restrain stakeholders from moving forward freely,” Mr Weiller said.
“Innovation & technology are undoubtedly the hot topics of the moment, not only in the broader world, but internally for The MCC Group as we diversify and push our scope and business model into the artificial intelligence and automation world.”
“In saying this, The MCC Group believes in humans, noting that innovation and technology will only be effective in the long run when the ‘good side’ of both worlds are combined for a sustainable future.”
The 2024 winner of the Supply Chain Innovation and Technology award was NavLab whose platform took out the top spot for the unique way in which it was specifically tailored for freight forwarders, providing transparency into pricing systems and addressing all transport modes—ultimately increasing profitability and customer satisfaction.
NavLab CEO, Bernadette Habkouk, said this award was important as it “shines a light on the innovations shaping the future of the maritime and logistics sector—areas where technology and operational efficiency can have a transformative impact”.
On what the win meant to Navlab, Ms Habkouk said the award was not just recognition for their technology, but also for the team’s dedication and passion.
“Over the past year, the recognition has elevated awareness of NavLab’s capabilities, inspired greater confidence among our customers and partners, and strengthened team morale,” Ms Habkouk said.
“It reinforced that what we’re building truly makes a difference and motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in logistics technology.”
