INDUSTRY is counting down to the 30th annual DCN Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards night - and with just two weeks left to submit nominations, DCN is shining the spotlight on what it takes to win, and what it means to those who proudly display their trophy.
2025 SPONSOR

This week, the focus is on the Young Achievement Award - recognising the outstanding contributions of emerging professionals who drive innovation, leadership, and excellence across the maritime and logistics industries.
DCN is delighted to announce that the Merchant Navy War Memorial Fund will return as sponsor of this award, underlining its commitment to supporting and encouraging the next generation of industry leaders.
Merchant Navy War Memorial Fund chair Sean Barrett said the award has deep roots with the organisation.
“Our association with this award began in 2012 when our then chair, David Field, recommended it as a new category and personally sponsored it until 2014, reflecting his strong commitment to recognising the next generation. In 2018, David proposed that the Fund take on the sponsorship formally, as it was such a natural fit with our Vision Statement. Although David has since stepped down as chair, the Fund is proud to continue its support of this important award.”
The 2024 winner of the Young Achievement Award was Erin Mealor, Supervisory Charter Pilot at Auriga Aviation, who made significant contributions across the maritime and aviation sectors. Erin ensured the safe operation of ship-to-shore transport and became a role model for female pilots, actively championing aviation as a career pathway for women. Speaking of what it meant to win, Ms Mealor said:
“Winning the Young Achiever Award was such an honour. It recognises not just my journey, but the incredible support I’ve had along the way - from mentors, colleagues, and those who believed in my dream”.
Ms Mealor also applauded the awards for their celebration of the growing presence of women in the industry “Seeing more women stepping into these spaces and excelling is both inspiring and essential for the future” she said.
Talking about the importance of supporting young people in industry, Ms Mealor added “This award reminds us how important it is to invest in young people, to support their development, and to continue building an industry that’s skilled, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
