AUSTRALIA’s freight and logistics industry has recognised a new generation of leaders driving workplace safety, technology innovation, sustainability and workforce development, with the winners of the 36th Australian Freight Industry Awards (AFIA) announced at a gala event at Crown Palladium Melbourne.
The awards, hosted by the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), showcased how companies across the sector are responding to some of transport’s biggest challenges, including workforce attraction and retention, decarbonisation, emerging safety risks and digital transformation.
Among the night's major winners were Linfox, recognised for industry-leading sustainability initiatives, Page Tasmanian Freight for its Australian-developed logistics technology platform, Calleja Group for its leadership in addressing battery fire risks, and Searoad & Hunterlink for creating a workplace culture program focused on psychological safety and inclusion.
The industry's highest individual honour, the Industry Champion Award, was presented to Senator Glenn Sterle in recognition of his decades-long advocacy for transport operators, road safety and regional Australia.

- Best Practice Safety Award (supported by Gallagher): Calleja Group
- Application of Technology Award (supported by Transport Certification Australia): Page Tasmanian Freight
- Greenstart Award (supported by NTI): Linfox
- Waste & Recycling Business of the Year Award (supported by RSM Group): Tiny Tins Waste Management.

VTA chief executive Peter Anderson said this year's winners reflected an industry embracing change while continuing to perform a critical role in the national economy.
"The freight industry is undergoing significant transformation, and the organisations recognised tonight are helping lead that change," Mr Anderson said.
"What stands out about this year's winners is that they are not simply delivering freight more efficiently. They are investing in their people, embracing new technologies, improving safety outcomes and creating a more sustainable future for our industry."
AFIA chair and VTA president Dennis Ryan said the awards continued to shine a spotlight on the people and businesses shaping the next chapter of Australian freight.
"This year's winners demonstrate that the future of freight will be built on innovation, strong leadership, safer workplaces and a commitment to sustainability,” Mr Ryan said.
The evening was hosted by Melissa Hetherington, with entertainment from acclaimed performer Marty Fields and the Matt Hetherington Band.
