SOUTHERN Ports has invited the community to help name a new pilot boat for the Port of Bunbury.

Southern Ports provides marine pilotage services at the ports of Albany, Bunbury and Esperance.

The port authority has announced it will soon welcome a new vessel into its fleet and has invited the community to be a part of the port’s history by choosing a name.

“Pilot boats have a vital role in port operations, transporting marine pilots to and from visiting ships so they can safely guide them into and out of port,” Southern Ports said.

“There are 11 prizes up for grabs, with the winner set to receive a money-can’t-buy experience with a personal guided harbour tour on a pilot boat with one of our marine pilots.”

Southern Ports said $50 vouchers are available to other entrants, which can be used at Bunbury businesses including cafes, restaurants and other local activities.

“The pilot boat name needs to be easy to say and not too long – and will ideally have some relevance to the South West region or the maritime industry,” it said.

The competition is open to all ages. Entrants can submit their ideas via this link.

Entries are set to close at 1700 on Tuesday 27 June.
