TASPORTS is to introduce 48 wind turbine blades to Bell Bay, Tasmania for the Cattle Hill wind farm development.

The electricity created by the almost 70-metre turbine blades will power 63,500 Tasmanian homes with clean, renewable electricity.

TasPorts acting CEO Anthony Donald said the importation of the wind turbine blades in the Central Highlands would be a clear demonstration of TasPorts vital role in Tasmania as 99% of the state’s freight is carried by sea.

As for the $300m project timeline, Mr Donald said “we are expecting all turbine components to arrive across six shipments over the coming months.”

The turbine blade project will employ approximately 150 staff with 10 permanent staff members following its completion in late 2019.

Active bush fires in the area have postponed construction.
