PEAK body Road Freight NSW has worked with Transport for NSW to develop a Notice allowing increased mass for container related vehicles moving to and from Port Botany.
The draft NSW Class 3 Port Botany Container Movement Efficiency Notice is designed to improve the safe, efficient and compliant movement of containers, while increasing the ability for road managers to make improved access and road infrastructure investment decisions.
Under the draft notice, eligible heavy vehicles designed to carry shipping containers will be able to operate at axle group masses consistent with concessional mass limits when fitted with appropriate vehicle safety equipment and telematics monitoring.
The notice will cover the movement of containers in the greater Sydney area and is expected to commence in September 2019.
RFNSW CEO Simon O’Hara said the notice followed RFNSW’s ongoing engagement and consultation with Transport for NSW and NSW Ports.
“The notice is welcome news for our members using the port and will drive higher levels of compliance and opportunities for greater productivity as part of their day to day operations, whilst adhering to stringent safety and infrastructure management standards on the roads,” Mr O’Hara said.
